Sony has decided to bring Valiant Comics plus-sized heroine Faith to the big screen, and they’ve hired Maia Melnik (American Gods) to write the first draft of the script.
Faith Herbert, a science fiction- and fantasy-loving orphan, was approached by the mysterious Harbinger Foundation which unlocked her hidden psionic potential. Faith initially used her telekinetic powers to fly, carry others — and later added the ability to make force fields and create battering rams through practice.
Faith’s solo comic — written by Jody Houser with art by Francis Portela and Marguerite Sauvage — was named one of the best in 2016 by Vox, the Nerdest, Uproxx and Barnes & Noble.
The movie version of Faith is part of Sony’s five-picture development deal with Valiant Entertainment. It’s the second movie in the deal after the already-announce Vin Diesel picture Bloodshot. Toby Jaffe and Neal Moritz will produce under their Original Film banner with Dan Mintz of DMG Entertainment.
Sony also has Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, Venom, Moebius the Vampire and Silver Sable and Black Cat films in development to flesh out their series of superhero films centered around Spider-Man.
