For years, people have been asking for either a black Bond or a female Bond. The producers just answered with “Why not both?”
“Bond 25” marks Daniel Craig’s swan song as James Bond who will reportedly be retired in Jamaica at the beginning of the movie, but 007 will live on as an early report confirms that British Actress Lashana Lynch will inherit Bond’s famous designation as 007 in the new film.
Bond’s retirement is short-lived as M. presses him back into service to team with the new 007 to take on a global threat of unprecedented scope danger.
The Daily Mail quotes a movie insider who gushed about impact ‘There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007’, and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman.
“It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”
The insider also revealed that the phrase ‘Bond girls’ is now verboten, saying, “We were all told that from now on they are to be addressed as ‘Bond women’.”
“Bond 25” already generated some excitement by bringing on Phoebe Waller-Bridge, writer of the brilliant BBC comedy Fleabag and the drama Killing Eve, to modernize the franchise and bring Bond into the 21st century. Waller said, ‘There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not Bond is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women.”
“I think that’s BS. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. [The franchise] has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. [Bond] doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to his character.”
Lynch is best known from her role as Maria Rambeau, ace fighter pilot and best friend to Carol Danvers in the superhero blockbuster Captain Marvel.
